About this site
Who publishes Peruvian Torch Trip, how the care sheets are researched and checked, and why the product links on this site go to the Dutch smartshop Dutch-Smart.
Updated
Peruvian Torch Trip is published by the team behind Dutch-Smart, a smartshop in the Netherlands. Dutch-Smart sells Peruvian torch cuttings and seed, and every product link on this site goes to that shop. When you buy through such a link, the shop earns from the sale.
We say this up front because it matters for how you read the rest. The site is a grower's handbook for one plant: how to recognise it, which cutting or seed to start with, and how to keep it growing in a pot in a northern climate. It is commercial, and it is also meant to be accurate, including on the points that do not help sales, such as how little anyone can say about the mescaline content of a given plant and where the law draws its lines.

How the care sheets are made
- Sources first. Botanical descriptions come from the taxonomic literature, in particular the 2012 revision by Albesiano and Kiesling, and from the species accounts it builds on. Care advice follows the Royal Horticultural Society and the British Cactus and Succulent Society. Laboratory figures come from the published papers, and legal statements from the legal texts themselves. Each page links its sources.
- Checked on a date. Legal information was checked on 10 October 2026. Laws change; the date on each page tells you when we last looked.
- Left out when unsure. Where we could not verify a claim, such as a precise frost limit for this species, we say so or leave it out. Shop descriptions are quoted as the shop's own words.
- No consumption advice. This site covers the cactus as a plant. It contains no preparation, extraction or dosing information.
Who it is for
Adults who grow, or want to grow, a Peruvian torch as an ornamental cactus, and who want to know what they are buying. It is not written for anyone under 18.
Corrections
If you find a mistake, a dead link or an outdated legal reference, let the shop know through the contact details on dutch-smart.nl. Corrections go into the page with a new date.
